ETPD Community Outreach Programs

A program offered by the Evesham Township Police Department offers our citizens an informal venue to ask questions or voice their concerns.

Officers from the Evesham Township Police Department will be periodically available to answer law enforcement related questions during our Coffee with a Cop events held at different businesses throughout Marlton, NJ.

“The Coffee with a Cop program is a unique way to strengthen the partnership between the police department and community we serve. It is designed to enhance communication between concerned citizens and township police officers”. “We believe that this type of open dialogue plays a critical role in establishing a true partnership between the community and the police department.” Members of the community will be able to ask specific or general questions related to the neighborhoods they live in.

The Evesham Township Police Department places a high priority on community partnerships and believes these types of events can only foster better relationships.

The police department is planning on hosting the Coffee with a Cop on several occasions throughout the year at different shops or restaurants in the township.

For additional information, please contact Lt. Carl Scutt at (856) 985-6033. Additional dates and locations will be posted on the Evesham Township Police Department’s Facebook page as they become available.

All potential participants must submit an application prior to being considered for the program. Applications are available on-line or may be obtained through the program coordinator or at Evesham Township Police station.

CITIZEN POLICE ACADEMY

The CPA has been introduced in order to educate Evesham Township citizens about structure and activities of their police department. While the CPA class is not a “training class”, it is an exciting opportunity for residents to get a behind-the-scenes look at the various functions within the Evesham Township Police Department.

The idea of the CPA is one that informed educated residents will be supportive of police officers and the department. Additionally, those completing the program have the potential of becoming more productive within their own neighborhoods.

During the program classroom presentations, lectures and ‘hands-on” experiences offer residents valuable insight into the operations of the Evesham Township Police Department. These experiences along with the two-way communication established, furthers our efforts in improving the quality of life for residential and business communities throughout the township.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The CPA is designed to build a bond of mutual trust and respect between the police department and our citizens. Additionally, the academy highlights the importance of citizen participation in public safety, so that we as a community may remain free from the fear of crime.

The Evesham Township Police Department is hosting its annual Junior Police Academy day camp. The purpose of the Junior Police Academy is to provide young citizens with an introduction to Law Enforcement. Our goal is to motivate young people to be outstanding citizens and empower them to act as a positive influence in our community. The academy provides an opportunity for officers and students to see each other as people, rather than as adversaries. It will also transform the traditional role of the police officer into a mentor and a friend, while encouraging our young citizens to be partners in building safer schools and communities. While the students that attend the academy may not want to become police officers in the future, the program instills a confidence and sense of achievement that will benefit them for years to come.

The Junior Police Academy will cover a multitude of topics including, Social Media, Bullying, Motor Vehicle Law, DWI Enforcement, Teens and Drug Use, Crime Scene and Evidentiary Processing, Active Shooter Scenarios, and a K-9 demonstration. We will begin each day with an hour of light physical training and military drill.

Applications will be available at the Evesham Township Police Department between the hours of 8:30AM – 5:00PM Monday through Friday. The applications will also be available online for download at www.eveshampd.org. Completed applications must be turned into the police department in person.

We will have two separate academy weeks. The first week will be held July 22-26 and the second week will be held August 5-9. The academy will be held from 8:00am to 3:30pm. The Evesham Police Department proudly established a Police Chaplain Program in 2014. Currently, the program consists of 11 volunteer Chaplains. In 2014 the Evesham Police Department reached out to every house of worship in the township and received an overwhelming positive response from the different faith communities.

The ETPD Chaplain Program was established to serve and support the Evesham Police Department, focused on providing spiritual support for the community during traumatic events and incidents when called upon 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What Does the Chaplain Program Do?
Police Chaplains respond to counsel, assist and support victims and others touched by critical incidents and crises, including death notifications, suicide, homicides, hostage situations, kidnapping and other traumatic events. Police Chaplains are specially trained to handle crisis situations and also provide follow-up counseling, group debriefings and individual intervention. Police Chaplains are trained to minister to people of all faiths.

Police Chaplains are non-paid volunteers, and as such all chaplaincy services are provided at no cost to individuals, families or the department.

Operation Chill®

Evesham Officers will be “ticketing” kids who are caught in the act of doing good by giving them Slurpee beverage coupons.

Evesham Police Department and 7-11 partnering on a Community Policing Project

7-Eleven celebrates a generation of good behavior this year. For twenty years, US police officers have been ticketing kids with Operation Chill FREE Slurpee drink coupons. Many of those kids are adults now, and may even have children of their own who are eligible to receive a frozen treat for good behavior, compliments of 7-Eleven and the Evesham Police Department.

This initiative began in Philadelphia to give law enforcement officers a positive a positive reason to interact with children and teens. The initiative has now expanded to cities across the country. The Evesham Police Department is proud to partner with 7-Eleven in this program as our agency feels that this is a great way for our officers to connect with children in the community. Our officers will be “ticketing” kids who are caught in the act of doing good by giving them Slurpee beverage coupons. The coupons can be redeemed at any participating local 7-Eleven store.

“Our officers enjoy getting to interact positively with kids in the community." “We believe that this type of progressive community policing helps to create a bridge to combat the communication gaps seen in so many areas.”

ETPD is proud to announce a community partnership with one our local businesses. Cups and Cones of Marlton has teamed up with our department to help us promote bike helmet safety.
To help promote safe riding, officers from the Evesham Township Police Department will be issuing “tickets” to kids observed wearing their helmets while riding their bicycles. This also applies to those kids who are observed riding scooters, skates and skateboards. The tickets can be turned in to receive a free small water ice or soft serve ice cream from Cups and Cones.
We feel that these interactions are a unique way to promote safety while also being a great way for our youth to get to meet our officers and have a positive connection with our members.

The Evesham Police Department is committed to the safety of the children in our community. New Jersey Law mandates that all children under the age of 8 MUST be in an approved child seat. It is paramount to the safety of your child that a child seat be PROPERLY installed. The Evesham Police Department currently has seven (7) officer with the National Child Passenger Safety Certification, trained to properly install your child safety seat free of charge. Please complete the form below to schedule a free professional installation of your seat. After completing the below form, a Certified Child Seat Installer will contact you either by phone or by email to schedule the installation.  Please keep in mind that these officers work rotating shifts and may not be able to meet an immediate request.

According to the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety, Motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death of children over the age of six months in the United States. The proper use of child car seats is one of the simplest and most effective methods available for protecting the lives of our young children in the event of a motor vehicle crash.

However, 3 out of every 4 children in child safety seats are not properly secured, or even worse, not restrained at all. Only the correct use of child car seats will offer the protection your child needs. Please be aware of the facts listed on these Child Safety pages regarding the proper use of child car seats.

There are many different types of child car seats on the market today. Each one must meet federal standards and all provide good protection for your child when used correctly. The "right" seat for you is largely a matter of personal choice. Choose a seat that fits your child and your car, read the instructions carefully, and use the seat correctly on every trip.

Just as there are several types of Child Safety Seats, there are also several methods for securing these seats to a vehicle. Seat belt systems, lap belts or lap and shoulder belts are designed to be used for this purpose.

LATCH, which is an acronym for Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children, was designed to make installing child safety seats in vehicles easier. Nearly every car seat, and most vehicles manufactured since September 1, 2002 are required to have the LATCH system.
